Immigration and trafficking in the US

I read an article in the NY Times this morning about a group of workers who were brought over the United States from India, promised green cards for themselves and their families, and then forced into abusive working conditions. When they threatened to strike, the company was told by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement to fire them with no advance notice and ship them back to India.
